Artist and Author Sophie Atkinson trained at the Newcastle School of Art under R. G. Hatton and later at the Sir Hubert von Herkomer School near London. Her work has received recognition at exhibitions in Montreal, Calgary, Revelstoke and London, England. In 1962 she established the Revelstoke Art Club in Revelstoke, British Columbia.
