Description & Notes: A fine crystal centerpiece San Michele series bowl designed by Gunnar Cyrén for Orrefors, Sweden. The large and heavy round bowl is fluted around the exterior and smooth in the interior, reminiscent of the arcades and columns of Romanesque architecture and the smooth materials and seascapes of the Mediterranean. It is through this interplay of refraction and transparency that the material colour and three-dimensional properties of the form are emphasized. The creation of a modern style through traditional inspiration is the hallmark of Scandinavian masters and the resulting modern classicism of this piece suits inclusion in any style interior – contemporary to antique.
