SUMMARY: American Arts & Crafts marquetry panel, depicting a large group of yoked oxen pulling a distant load of wood, a person is sitting on the recently felled tree stump, with a grouping of random cut branches yet to be collected, between them; the rolling treed landscape continues under a clear sky. It is framed in an elaborate custom oak frame of flanking pillars joined by an arched upper strut and supported by a “footed” lower strut, made circa 1900.
The harmonious arrangement links the viewer to the artist, logger, and animals, and all to nature. A manifesto in self of the cyclical hands-on experience embodied in the Arts & Crafts Movement.
