Description & Notes: Stunning hand-enamelled pink over white opaline mantle vase attributed to Baccarat or Harrach. The shouldered baluster body has a cinched neck and a trumpet mouth, and is raised on an attached softly domed foot. It is decorated with opposing sparrows sitting among the branches of a wild rose bush, one vase yellow, the other white, and the rim and foot embellished with raised ‘jewel’ and gilt borders.
Dimensions: 14” high; 4 ½” diameter
Condition: Antique, Excellent Condition.
For Accuracy Only: there is a fine ¼” x 1/32” factory flaw on the inside, below the rim – this is not damage but a natural result of the production. There is some typical light rubbing on the enamel in the background. Overall a striking vase.
The gilt and enamelling is extremely well executed with an impasto technique for the central features (birds, flowers) and hand-painted detailing of the background branches, leaves and buds.
