Description & Notes: Stunning hand-enamelled pink over white opaline mantle vase attributed to Baccarat, France. The shouldered baluster body has a cinched neck and a trumpet mouth, and is raised on an attached softly domed foot. It is decorated with opposing sparrows sitting among the branches of a wild rose bush, one vase yellow, the other white, and the rim and foot embellished with raised ‘jewel’ and gilt borders.
Dimensions: 14” high; 4 ½” diameter
Condition: Very Good Vintage Condition: there is a restored ½”chip on the foot of one vase, this is on the backside and is not visible from the front. The gilt and enameling is extremely well executed with an impasto technique for the central features (birds, flowers) and hand-painted detailing of the background branches, leaves and buds. There is some typical light rubbing on the enamel in the background. Overall a striking vase.
