Continental (19th Century)
Inkstand
bronze
5 ½” High x 5 ⅞” Diameter
Description: A fine antique Ink Standish of solid bronze, likely Continental, circa 1860-1890. The well is tapered and reeded with an integral hinged lid and complimentary tapered finial, all raised above a round pedestal base with a smooth inset well and dentil border. The base is sized for use as an accessory holder and pen rest.
Markings: unsigned; well secured into pedestal base with screw mechanism
Dimensions: 5 ½” High x 5 ⅞” Diameter
Condition: Very Good Condition – Ready for Use/Display
For Accuracy Only: the well insert is missing – this is common and expected. The well tilts backwards very slightly, this is barely noticeable in person, this effect is exaggerated in the photos due to a lens parallax issue. There is possibly a replaced washer under the screwed base, it is unseen and a perfect fit. The bronze shows light wear around the rim and interior, else a nice patina, good cast and quality production.
