hand-painted and gilt porcelain
9 ⅛” high x 6” diameter
Description: A matched pair of bottle form mantle vases with amorous landscapes and elaborate bouquets reserved on white and turquoise panels, by Porcelain Helena Wolfsohn, circa 1879-1883.
Notes: The bottle form vases are decorated with alternating panels of white and turquoise. Each turquoise panel has an extravagant hand-painted bouquet of colorful flowers and the white panels show picturesque landscapes inhabited by a pair of lovers in bright costumes. All panels are unique and asymmetrical and separated by wide parcel gilt borders. The rim is quilted in gilt. Both lids are turquoise with a gilt white border with a rose finial.
Markings: both marked on base with underglaze Helena Wolfsohn pseudo-Augustus Rex monogram
Dimensions: 9 ⅛” high x 6” diameter
Condition: Good Condition
For Accuracy Only: one vase has light rubbing to the gilt and the other has an extremely tight hairline crack coming down from the neck, this is only noticeable under close inspection. The lids are included as a gratuity, both are damaged – these are nearly always missing and a welcome inclusion. The colours are bright, the painting very fine.
