JEWELLERY & FASHIONA Mid-Victorian, Grand Period (1860-1885), Etruscan Revival brooch with a central oval Rosaline shell cameo, depicting in high relief the head of the mythological Rondanini Medusa, of beautiful gorgon style and wearing a winged cap of owl type wings held on the head by snake-like cords tied under her chin, showing an atypical face showing extreme pathos and facing sinister (right), surrounded by unmarked yellow gold filigree containing alternating oval amethyst and round sky blue turquoise cabochons. The pin back has an early style tube hinge and a “c” type catch.
