Donald Appleby Smith (England / Canada, b. 1917) MSA. Smith came to Canada in 1934, studied at the Winnipeg School of Art, Winnipeg, Manitoba (c.1937); and at the Art Students’ League, New York City, New York. Working in oil, watercolour, and acrylic, his subjects include abstract landscapes and still life. He also painted in northern Ontario, near Muskoka. He worked as a commercial artist, and was President of the Manitoba Society of Artists in 1953. He is the brother of artist Gordon Appelbe Smith. He exhibited with the AAM in 1937.
