Joseph Inwald Barolac ‘Dans La Forêt’, pattern #586, vase of large size, designed and imported for John Jenkins & Sons (London, England), British Art Deco, circa 1930s. Designed to convey the effects of peering into the depths of a lush forest, large gnarly tree trunks are positioned asymmetrically around the body, their branches ascending into a bushy canopy and their roots entangled around the base. Between these is a receding landscape of densely packed internal trees positioned with careful attention to perspective.
