Chinese Export – Soup Tureen – American Eagle, Roses
Porcelain$7,500 Chinese Export (Qianlong c. 1736-1795) ‘American Eagle’ Soup Tureen and Underplate, c. 1782-1795 gilt, hand-painted, hard-paste porcelain (underplate) 11 ½” long x 9 1/8” wide x 1 5/8” high (tureen) 11 ¼” long (at handles) x 8”wide x 5 3/8” high (w/out cover) / 8” high (lid finial) Notes: Dating from the early period of the United States the Chinese Export soup tureen has been custom painted with the Arms of the United States and floral bouquets featuring roses strung together with garlands of gilt flowers, in celebration of the newly forming union. The Arms depicted is most similar to those of Trenchard’s Engraving of 17861, where the clouds form an arc and radiance is extended upwards and outwards, a similar arms, can be seen on a Chinese Export sugar and pitcher in the collections at Colonial Williamsburg (2008-148,A&B;2008-149). -

Porcelain, SOLDSold Nippon, Japanese Early 20th Century Rose Blossom Tapestry Vase Hand-Painted Textured Porcelain 9 ½” height x 5 ¼” width Notes: Tall Nippon vase in the innovative ‘Tapestry’ technique featuring full pink and yellow rose blossoms amongst green leaves and a mottled graded ground. Two applied and gilt porcelain “leaf” handles flank the short neck and everted gilt rim, the foot is additionally gilt for a finishing touch. -
