Liberty & Co – Mug Frame – Archibald Knox, Tudric 0534

    ,
Description & Notes: A scarce Tudric line mug frame, #0534, designed by Archibald Knox (1864-1933) for Liberty & Co. Knox was a prolific and exceptional Scottish designer who incorporated many traditional and natural motifs into future forward designs of Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, British Secessionist and other protomodern styles. This mug frame is no exception showcasing the Celtic knot work, introduced to him by Mary Compton which has since become the hallmark of Knox design. The hand-worked round pewter form is intricately pierced into a continuous interlaced berry and foliate pattern, with applied D-shape handle. It functions as a framework to hold a tall green James Powell delicate art glass insert. Scroll Down for further details
