Established by the Department of Soldiers Civil Re-establishment of Canada, Vetcraft Shops provided a means of employment and social reintegration for all veterans (not only those disabled) returning from WWI, between 1919 and 1925. Starting small and eventually with departments in Toronto, Hamilton, Kingston, London, Montreal and elsewhere, Vetcraft Shops were instrumental in establishing the production and sale of lapel poppies in association with the Royal Canadian Legion – a tradition which continues to this day.
