Artist/Maker Biography: Archimede Seguso (Murano, 1909-1999). Born into a Venetian glass family that can trace its beginnings in the tradition back to May 3, 1397, the family established the Artistica Vereria e Soffieria Barovier, Seguso and Ferro in 1933 and Seguso Vetri d’Arte. Archimede ventured off on his own in 1942 and apprenticed at La Vetreria Artistica Barovier working closely with Flavio Poli and in 1946 made a move to establish an independent studio called Vetraria Archimede Seguso. Here, under a burst of creative output, Archimede Seguso would experiment with many techniques and become one of the leading studios on the island.
