Founded by Benjamin S Whitehead (1858-1940), a graduate of the Cooper Union Institute and exhibitor at the 1876 Centennial Exposition, and Chester R Hoag (1860-1935), a self-made entrepreneur in Newark, New Jersey it produced buttons, badges, medals, and other advertising and political products. A large enterprise it was the dominating company in the field and by WWII employed over 400 workers, however the operations dwindled as the last surviving family with interest in the company died at which point they were purchased and dissolved by their competitors the Bastian Bros. of Rochester, NY.
