Early 1990’s reissue of the classic electric Ventura wrist watch, designed by Richard Arbib (New York, 1917-1995) (the designer who put fins on cars) for Hamilton Watch Co, circa 1957. The original was the first mass produced electric wrist watch and became the iconic watch of the space age, notably worn by Elvis, Rod Sterling in The Twilight Zone, and more recently by Will Smith as Agent J in Men in Black (as well as Agent M & O).
An eye catcher encapsulating the most celebrated aesthetics of the Atomic era it has come to convey the now traditional lines of modernity. The distinctive boomerang form case, originally conceptualized as a bomb, and b
lack dial with central silver electric line, silvertone hour, minute, and second hands and dot index hour markers – are all somehow stylish and understated in what’s clearly a design perpetually just ahead of its time.
