Description: A fine American double inkstand made by the Bradley & Hubbard Co., Meriden Connecticut, made of cast gilt brass, early 20th Century.
The classical style cast base rests on four raised flared feet and has a wide flat polished table with two circular holes to accommodate the pressed clear glass inkwells. The inkwells are molded in a raised diamond point design and are caped by loose brass covers embossed with radiating swirls. There is an integral lift handle on either side, a pen rest composed of two attached arches and a high, shaped, reticulated back that has an all-over entwined decoration consisting of spiralling foliage and acanthus leaves in the Victorian manner.
Markings: embossed on the base, “B&H” / “3559” / “&” / “7039”
Dimensions: 10 1/8” long x 6” wide x 6 1/8” high
Condition: Fair, the table shows signs of discoloration; one inkwell has manufacturing roughness at the mouth and a straw mark at the foot.
