SOLD – Rookwood – Vase – 2091
Summary: American art pottery vase in mat rose glaze with four geometric panels spaced equidistant around the body, made by Rookwood Pottery, 1928. Each panel runs vertically on the slightly sloping sides and consists of a stylized leaf with tapered blades that end on the slightly cinched neck. The mildly everted rim is covered in a subtle mint green matt glaze that brings added texture to the rose ground.
This pattern and form was produced during the Art Deco era and is representative not only of the design ethos of the period but also the persistent influence of the Arts & Crafts movement on Modern and 20th Century design in America.
