Royal Doulton – Bucket – Full Moon, Waterfall

Availability: In Stock
Trues Badge

An absolutely beautiful slop pail / bucket made by Royal Doulton, Burslem, England, circa 1901. The wide cylindrical body has a fitted cover / insert with large hole in its center to allow the nights refuse to be collected and carried without the contents sloshing out. The pail is decorated with a wonderful handpainted scene depicting rapids and a stepped waterfall flanked on either side by trees that extend around the back in one continuous loop. Above the falls is a full moon that radiates light onto the shimmering water and only illuminates the trees in the immediate vicinity of the falls. The rest of the forest is only implied by the dark paint and its high texture. The background color as seen above the trees is a nice shade of blue that depicts both the moons light and the night sky with a sense of color reality.

It measures 11 inches high (9 ⅝ inches without cover / insert) (14 ⅝ inches with cane bail handle raised) x 12 inches across the handle lugs (10 ½ inches diameter without lugs).

It has the Royal Doulton logo used from 1902-1922 that consist of a circle with 4 intertwined “D”s surrounded by:                                     “ROYAL DOULTON

This is topped by a crown surmounted by a lion: its body facing left but looking straight out.

A short distance away it is marked in black underglaze with the code for the year 1901:

CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition with only a couple of very tiny scrapes.
