A wonderful early example of American coin silver, this decorative ‘Fiddle’ pattern spoon was made by S. D. Brower & Son (Sperry Douglas Brower), Albany and Troy, New York, and retailed by jeweler Charles Simon Willard (1811-1885, worked circa 1835-1880).

A wonderful early example of American coin silver, this decorative ‘Fiddle’ pattern spoon was made by S. D. Brower & Son (Sperry Douglas Brower), Albany and Troy, New York, and retailed by jeweler Charles Simon Willard (1811-1885, worked circa 1835-1880). It has a beautiful shell shaped bowl, prominent shoulders, elegant stem, and ‘Fiddle’ terminal elaborately engraved with initials “HL”.
Markings: Fully hallmarked with “C. S. WILLARD” retailers mark, S. D. Brower & Son “D, “Spread Winged Eagle Mark” with male head facing left.
Dimensions: 6 3/8” long
Weight: 30.2 grams
Condition: A period piece, it is offered in excellent original condition – no damage, no repair. Any wear is commensurate and contributes to the patina. The terminal is delicately and finely engraved with the initials “HL”.
