Beautiful and well executed sterling silver hinged jewelry box “MADE FOR TIFFANY & CO.” by “John Chatellier”, 2 ½ inches high x 6 ⅜ inches wide x 5 ½ inches, circa 1920s. The sides and top are decorated with horizontally parallel ⅛ inch thick engine-turned reeded lines alternating with unmachined ones. The top is further decorated with an engraved border incorporating acanthus leaf decoration that joins in the corners to form hearts and in the center is a large round cartouche with 4 opposing areas of c-scroll decoration containing “B A F ” / (BAF) in monogram.
Impressed on the bottom front below the latch: “MADE FOR TIFFANY & CO.”
Impressed on the bottom near the back edge is the John Chatellier monogram / logo above:

CONDITION: Very good vintage condition. There is a small shallow dent on the left side near the front and another on the center back. The box has an internal lock (presently in the unlocked position) for which we do not have the key, but it opens easily if the lid is pushed slightly to the right then lifted. The salmon colored velvet interior has some light wear as expected on a vintage objet d’art. The interior has built in supports on either side that may have held a tray at one time.
