Condition: Excellent
For Accuracy: a period piece it may show expected light signs of age and use related wear. The form is high mid-century, the internal mesh extremely fine and the clarity of the glass is superb. The overall design is reminiscent of the techniques employed in the dazzle camouflage of the Art Deco era employed with a mid-century spirit.

Notes: Bottle form vase decorated in ‘Moroccan’ polychrome enamel by Thomas Webb & Sons, circa 1870-1890. Described in Thomas Webb’s 1879 sketch-book as “alabaster-cored,” this Aesthetic period vase draws heavily on the influences of the Islamic and Orientalist decorative traditions.
Reference: Manley, ‘Decorative Victorian Glass’ no. 185, “A vase for identification, most deceptive. The first impression is obviously French, but Thomas Webb’s records (sketch-book of 1879) describe them as alabaster-cored, with square top and enameled, and it is when a number are placed alongside each other that this is realized, all differ in some way.

Moser – Decanter – Cornucopia, Enamel

Antique cornucopia form cordial decanter with original gilt metal stand and four handled glasses, made by Moser, Bohemia, circa 1880s.
The diminutive cornucopia rests stopper up, spigot down, in a flowing gilt metal frame with integral glass hooks and applied leaf, flower and bird decorations. The decanter is decorated with elaborate gilt and polychrome enameled berries and leaves, and the glasses with gilt fronds. A metal spigot has been inserted into the round front for easy pouring and a glass stopper fits at the tip for refilling. As is typical of Moser the quality of enamel is fine
