Description: Wang Hing & Co. Chinese export silver card case delicately chased with Chrysanthemums around a central vacant cartouche on the anterior and prunis blossoms on the posterior and around the edges.
Markings: impressed on base Wang Hing (Canton, 1854-1941) ‘WH’ and a Chinese 900 standard mark
Condition: Antique, Very Good
For Accuracy: an antique item it may show expected light signs of age. There is a short split to edge of the lid near the opening, it is tight. The case is of quality gauge with a secure slip on cover.
Biography: “Wang Hing originated as a jade dealer in Canton and evolved to become the best known and most prolific maker of export silver during the late China Trade period. Towards the end of the 19th century Wang Hing forged connections with Western silver firms and exhibited silver at international exhibitions. The firm later expanded to Shanghai, and opened a flagship store in Hong Kong in 1920.”
