Powder Compact, Flap-Jack
835 silver
(compact) 3 3/4″ x 3 5/8″
(weight) 105 grams (w/ mirror)
Notes: Marek Vonchovsky 835 silver mirrored flap-jack style powder compact with floral engraving, a central monogrammed cartouche, an engine turned ground, and substantial scrolled border, made in Czechoslovakia, circa 1929-42. Unlike most compacts the engraving continues around the interior with flourish; the internal deep-set mirror has a reserve surrounding the mirror which fits the powder well rim and helps secure any powder overage within the powder well.
Markings: impressed in interior, “C. ochr. VZ.”, “29730 c.s.r.” / “835” / “M.V.” with the colloquially called “Coffeepot” mark
Condition: Vintage, Very Good Condition. For Accuracy Only: there may be light signs of use commensurate with age; mirror shows light signs of age, it still reflects well. The front cartouche is neatly engraved “WM”. The patina is warm and rich and the clasp snaps and holds firm.
