British School, c. 1820s
Profile Miniature of a Gentleman
fine black paper cut-out laid on card
(sight) 3 ½” high x 2 ⅞” wide
(frame) 6 ⅝” high x 5 ⅝” wide
Notes: Bust-length profile of a gentleman cut from black paper mounted on off-white card, British School, circa 1820s. The sitter faces sinister wearing a white shirt, tall standing collar, cravat and jacket. It is housed behind convex glass in a traditional faux-ebonized wooden frame with a brass hanger of an acorn and oak leaves.
Condition: Very Good
For Accuracy: an Antique it may show expected light signs of age and use related wear. It has been inspected out of the frame; the back seal was intact when opened and it is likely that our opening the back was the first time it was opened since its creation – our only reason for opening the item was to inspect for identifying features such as inscriptions or artist’s trade labels, there is none. It is in the exact condition it was prior to being opened; the hair of the gentleman has some light tufting which would have been done accidentally by the artist.
