Description: A Bohemian historismus stein of green glass likely made at the Anton Ambrose Egermann Workshop, Novy Bor, Haida, Bohemia and then decorated at J & L Lobmeyr, Vienna, Austria during the later half of the 19th Century. The raised enamel decoration of a large coat of arms surmounted by person with an ample drinking glass in the left hand and a wand in the right, above the scrolling saying, ‘Ein gutter Trink Schemkt Alt und jung’ (‘A good drink tastes good to old and young’, the base, rim and handle decorated with white enamel. Finished with a pewter lid and thumb piece decorated with cherubs, gadrooning and foliates. The coat of arms is possibly German, possibly spurious. These were made for the home crowd and as a souvenier and often carry a coat of arms from the city of sale.

Markings: unmarked, this type of green glass with historismus style and white enamel decoration, is typically attributed to the Egermann workshop, with many examples further signed by Lobmeyr. Egermann is known to have supplied glass to Lobmeyr who are renowned for their enameling.
