Northwood Glass Company (American 1887-1925)
‘Good Luck’ bowl, c. 1910
Ruffled rim, ‘basket weave’ reverse
green glass, strong iridescence
8 7/8” diameter x 2 ½” high
Markings: marked with embossed Northwood N in a circle logo on the base, center.
Notes: An early Northwood American Carnival Glass green ruffled 9” bowl in the ‘Good Luck’ pattern with iridized finish of pink, greens, blues, and golds, and a further iridized ‘basket weave’ pattern back raised on a round collar foot, made circa 1910.
Called “a stroke of genius” the Good Luck pattern combines the best elements of early Carnival Glass into one and remains one of the most sought and recognizable patterns. A bold symbolic horseshoe over riding crop is found centrally under an arched capitalized declaration, ‘GOOD LUCK’ surrounded by lush Belle Epoch floral sprays and berries. The reverse sports ribs emanating from the central foot towards the eight ruffles and fully formed sawtooth edge.
Condition: Very Good
For Accuracy: an antique bowl it may show expected light signs of age and use related wear. There are a couple of straw marks and two internal bubbles visible only when held up to the light; these are not damage but common and considered part of the production process.
