Description: A fine Venetian glass ‘Snail’ paperweight made at Galliano Ferro, c. 1965. The carefully formed clear glass paperweight features a deep blue sommerso core, applied neck, ears, murrine eyes, and tooled shoulders and tail.
Markings: A partial circular gold foil label on base has a head facing Sinister flanked by the letters “G” and “F”; the exterior edge with “FORNASA DE MVRAN A L’INSECNA DEL MORETO • MADE IN ITALY –”
Dimensions: 5 ¼” long x 3 ¼” high

Artist/Maker Biography: Galliano Ferro (Murano, 1955-Present) was co-founder of Arte Vetraria Muranese (AVeM) in 1932 and established an independent studio in 1955 aiming to utilize traditional methods to create modern forms. Designers at Ferro have included son Giorgio Ferro, Ezio Rizzetto, Fulvio Bianconi and Vinicio Vianello. In 1972 the studio switched focus to lighting producing luxury chandeliers, they are still in business and still run by the Ferro family.
