Description & Notes: An original The Shuttleworth straw boater hat, made in Canada, circa 1928. The quality make exhibits a complex and heavy ¼” thick weave of stiff straw with a smart navy ribbon, the interior lined with a protective mesh, a top waxy paper lining, and a thick leather inner headband. Dimensions: ht. 3 ¾”; ln. 12 ½”; wd. 11” Size: 7 1/2″

Markings: Original hatters label sewed into the interior mesh, [Canadian Coat of Arms / The Shuttleworth / Boater Hat / Made in Canada / Specialty of / W. — / 420 – St. / Hamilton, Ont.”; original size label tucked under leather headband, reads 7 1/2″ in an oval.  Further tucked up under the leather headband is a folded piece of The Hamilton Spectator newspaper, no date present. A headline reads ‘Plan Non-Stop Flight’ and an article describing a historical flight attempt by Lt. K. C. Hawkins and Charles Rocheville to fly non-stop from San Diego to New York and back without stopping, this dates the paper to circa June 30, 1928. As does the headline ‘Al Smith Nominated By Franklin D. Roosevelt.”
