Huntley & Palmers (British, 1822-1976)
Book Bundle ‘Literature’ Biscuit Tin, c. 1901
chromo-lithographed tin
6 ½” long x 6 ¼” high x 4 7/8” wide

Description: An Edwardian Huntley & Palmers trompe l’oeil Book Bundle biscuit tin made to resemble a small grouping of books. These book tins came with ten different varieties of books, this the third in the series with eight books of literature including the History of England, Pilgrim’s Progress, Burns, Pickwick Papers, Robinson Crusoe, Gulliver’s Travels, Self Help, and Shakespeare, each made to look of fine quality with faux-tooled leather bindings, faux-marbled end papers and held together by a faux-leather strap. The advertisers name is discreetly lithographed on the base “end papers” so as not to be visible when displayed on a shelf.

Condition: Antique, Very Good
For Accuracy: an antique item it may show expected light signs of age. It is being left in its as found state for the buyers own personal patina preferences, thus it still has some grime and dust that will clean off nicely. There is some wear mainly on the sides and some to the front, the bottom and back is excellent with good strong shimmering colour. The hinge and lid are in working order.
