Note: Clamp top No. 2 fruit jar sealer in aqua glass by the Hamilton Glass Works, (Hamilton, Ontario, 1864-1880), circa 1860s. These jars are “thought to be the oldest of Canadian made jars.”
Description: Shouldered cylindrical fruit jar with long neck and prominent mouth offering an ample edge that a lid may be held in place by a cast iron yoke thumb-screw. The lip has a circular trough to securely hold the rubber gasket. The original lid is unmarked, a variation noted and illustrated in both Roller (1983:148/2011:229) & Creswick (1987a:78-79) (see Lockhart, Schriever, Lindsey, & Serr).
