Description: A rare Carlton Ware chamberstick in pattern ‘New Mikado’ no. 2728, with deep blue lustre ground, made by Wiltshaw & Robinson, circa 1923-36, decorated in brightly coloured enamel and gilt detailing. The large circular slightly domed base is decorated on one side with a pagoda atop a bridge situated between two islands of lush flowers and foliage, and on the other a small island with two cranes shaded by a bough. Birds, fruit trees and flowers are distributed around the body between the main decorations. The raised bell mouth is further embellished with an elaborate gilt foliate border with blue enamelled flowers and beads. The interior of the well, the handle and the base edge are entirely covered in gold gilding.
