Description: A rare matching pair of Art Deco candlesticks in the ‘Best Ware’ line in rare pattern ‘4212’ ‘Fighting Glade’, made by Carlton Ware, circa 1938. The large circular domed bases are elaborately decorated with lush stylized oriental floral sprays of bright blue, pink, yellow, and green lustre all finely detailed in gold gilding and all on a deep red luster ground. The raised bell mouths are further embellished with a gilt foliate border on their softly sloping outer edge and entirely gilt inside the wells.
Markings: both are marked on the base with the black ‘Carlton Ware’ / ‘Made in England’ / ‘Trade Mark’ script mark backstamp. One is additionally marked ‘330/1124’ and the other ‘N19/R’, ‘4212’ denoting the pattern, glazes, shapes and sizes.
