Made of white clay, the thrown body is of round bowl form decorated with a central band of four equidistant pinwheel medallions , the shoulder enclosed with a repeating geometric band reflecting the triangular design present in the pinwheel, and the edge of the wide open mouth “crimped” for finishing. The exterior is painted in the iconic burnished brown sip, the interior with a high gloss cobalt blue glaze, and the interior further defined by a raised central ring to hold in place a votive candle.
Markings: Inscribed around base, “SIX NATIONS RESERVE KANYENGEH / POTTERY / [pot mark] JS / 1993”
Dimensions: ht. 2 ⅜”; dm. 4 ⅛”
Condition: A vintage pot, it is offered in fine original condition, no damage, no repair. The form and sgraffito are clear and the body clean. It is ready for display and would make a wonderful addition to any Six Nations / Canadian art pottery collection / interior.
