Description: A fine original Edward Charles Barnes (British, 1830-1883) oil on canvas genre painting depicting a young lady within a period Victorian interior preparing a display of flowers.
A young Lady, obviously well positioned in society, is shown wearing a fashionable satin gown with high ruffled lace neckline, puff shoulders, long sleeves, gilt buttons and trim. She is standing in front of a marble pedestal surmounted by cherry blossoms within an elegant Japanese inspired blue and white vase. Delicately and with much attention to aesthetic detail she is removing some foliage and blossoms until satisfied with the arrangement. A small diverse bouquet of flowers is bundled in her skirt, with some clippings having fallen at her feet below.

Condition Note: For accuracy only: there is some light wear to the extremities of the frame and the frame has been sympathetically restored and conserved. It is clean and displays well.
Artist Biography: Edward Charles Barnes (England, 1830-1883) A London painter of domestic scenes and interiors; he exhibited for many years, (1856-1882) at the Royal Academy in London, the Royal Society of British Artist in Suffolk Street and the British Institute.
