James Noble (1919-1989)
Still Life: Wine, Lemon & Scallop, 1962
oil on canvas
(actual) 18″ high x 14″ wide
Notes: An original James Noble (1919-1989) still life oil on canvas depicting a wine bottle, lemon, glass, scallop and scrunched tablecloth in a clean neutral light, 1962. A contemporary take on a classic theme, Noble here nods to his Dutch influences with a modern sensibility. Born in Middlesex, Noble studied at Regent Street Polytechnic and the Grosvenor School of Modern Art under Ian MacNab (1890-1979). Employing his talent towards realism and the design ethos of the Grosvenor School the effect is a carefully composed presentation that rides the line between enjoyable evening meal and symbolic arrangement. An original James Noble (1919-1989) still life oil on canvas depicting a wine bottle, lemon, glass, scallop and scrunched tablecloth in a clean neutral light, 1962.
