John Hamilton Glass SSA ARSA (Scottish, fl. 1890-1925) watercolour on cardstock entitled, ‘Evening at the Borders, Droving Sheep.’ Known for carefully composed landscapes and coastal scenes of Scottish life this painting depicts an expansive and large take on Glass’s standard oeuvre. Depicted is a woman droving sheep down a country lane in the Scottish Borders, shaded by a row of trees on the right, a cottage nestled along the bend, and an expansive rolling countryside beyond dotted with little patches of pasture, tree lines and smoking cottage chimneys.
Markings: signed lower right, “Hamilton Glass SSA”
