Description & Notes: Vintage impressionist oil on canvas painting titled “Cloaked” by listed British artist, Anthony (Tony) Robert Klitz (1917-2000), c. 1985. Klitz has established himself as a painter of the London cityscape and is represented at the major galleries and world class auction houses such as Liberty & Co. (where this painting originated) and Christies. His paintings offer a distinct visual expression that encapsulates the city in a few light strokes of colour, and whose impressionist manner lends itself perfectly to the London fog.
Showing Empire with civility, this painting conveys the realities of the city environment with a clean and refined sense of style. Wearing their scarlet cloaks over full dress uniforms a line of mounted troopers pass a couple of fashionable figures along a tree lined expanse.
