Description

Summary: A fine original KPM porcelain plaque depicting ‘Jesus in the Temple’, attributed to Wagner, after Johann Michael Ferdinald Heinrich Hofmann (1824-1911). The original for this painting resides in the Dresden Art Gallery, Germany and an early copy in the Riverside Church, NYC having been donated by John D. Rockefeller, Jr..

A young Christ stands in the Temple discussing and debating the nature of God amongst a group of five Jewish Elders. 

Dimensions: 7 ½” high x 9 7/8” wide

Markings: Inscribed verso top left, “No. 5—-GIIe”; Impressed verso, lower center, with “Scepter / KPM / W”, circle with sticks, inscribed into porcelain with plate size, “255-195”.

Condition: An antique, it is offered in mint original condition free from damage or repair. For accuracies sake there is an area lower right, this appears to be from production. It is thoroughly been checked under UV/IR lighting conditions and there is no trace of fluorescence or secondary painting. The painting is very fine and attributed to Wagner, it is not signed but other examples (see Bonhams) are documented.
