Description

Description: Original Canadian School oil on board painting titled, ‘Outlet of Larsen Lake, Armour Township, District of Parry Sound, Ontario’ by well-listed and respected artist Lawrence Nickle (1931-2014), circa May 1995.  A ‘light’ obsessive, Lawrence painted the Northern Ontario landscape in the thick of it – en plein air. The small panel, a standard size for Nickle, effectively conveys the atmosphere, as well as the imagery, of Larsen Lake. The application of paint is organic as if the artwork was grown on the board directly from the surrounding environment.

Shown is a cropped corner outlet of Larsen Lake in Parry Sound; a wild grouping of conifers reflect in the shallows amongst fallen scrub and vegetation along the waters edge. The scene is instantly recognizable as what one may run across in the back woods whilst hiking or canoeing.

Dimensions (painting): 9 ⅞” high x 11 ¾” wide

Markings: signed lower right, ‘NICKLE’; titled, dated and signed verso, “OUTLET OF LARSEN LAKE” / ARMOUR TWP. DIST OF PARRY SOUND ONT.” / “MAY 95. Lawrence Nickle”

Condition: Excellent Vintage Condition – no damage, no repair. It has been framed and is ready for display.
