An impressive matched pair of tall double handled Amphora vases, made by Ernst Wahliss, Turn-Teplitz, Austria, appropriately stamped on base with maker’s mark and impressed “5057/10” c. 1894-1918.
The large wrythen conical bodies extend upwards into a narrow neck flanked by large loop handles, supported by a band of applied gilt flowers, flaringly sharply at the mouth into a wide oval with an irregular almost floriform rim. The bodies are further decorated with hand-enameled lilacs and foliage over a ground of green, with burnished gilt to the handles, necks and foot representing faux ormolu mounts.
Height: 13 ¼ in. x Width: 5 ¾ in.
