Summary: A rare and very nice Royal Doulton stoneware whiskey jug, made special to contain Hudson’s Bay Company, Special, Best Procurable, whisky, circa 1902-1922. It is complete with what we believe is the original cork and metal stopper with ring finial – this is even rarer as these were typically discarded or lost.
The ovoid bottle form body is tan coloured, while the shoulders, neck and loop handles are a dark brown. Three appliqué plaques are added vertically to the front to showcase the contents. The top embossed ribbon cartouche reads, “SPECIAL”; above a large circular Hudson’s Bay seal reading, “HUDSONS BAY COMPANY INCORPARTED 1670” around their official coat of arms; above the bottom long embossed ribbon cartouche reading, “BEST PROCURABLE”.
Dimensions (bottle): 7 7/8” high (plus stopper) x 4 ½” diameter
