Notes: An early Victorian black basalt vase / holder, decorated with two Neo-Classical appliqué tableaux (Coriolanus being asked to return to Rome & Cupid Asleep) separated by two appliqué tree & foliage groupings under a top scrolling foliate appliqué border, made by Wedgwood circa 1865.
Coriolanus being asked to return to Rome: referenced in Wedgwood (1873) pp. 39, no.258, “Coriolanus, with his wife and mother persuading him to return to Rome.”
Cupid Asleep: two nymphs attempt to steal cupid’s arrow while he sleeps
Condition: Excellent
