Notes: Original woodblock titled ‘Duck’, depicting a Muscovy duck (Cairina moschata) in a “linear and rhythmic” expression, by listed Canadian artist Alistair Macready Bell (1913-1997).

Biography: Alistair Macready Bell (1913-1997) Born Darlington, England; emigrated to Canada 1922; settled in Vancouver 1928. He specialized in graphic works, including woodcuts, wood engravings, etchings, and lithographs. He also worked in watercolour, pencil, crayon, pen, and other medium. By his own admission, Bell was always drawn to subject matter in which the linear, rhythmic quality of shape predominated. His depictions of boats, birds and animals are charged, expressionist renderings at once recognizable as quintessential “Bell” interpretationsAWARDS: Canada Council Travel Grans (1959); Canada Council Scholarship (1967) MEMBER: Atelier Sketch Club, Vancouver School of Art( Under Binning).
