Description: An original lithograph by French artist Henri Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901), titled ‘Les Courtes Joies,’ it was created as cover art for Jean Sermet’s 1897 book of the same name.
Notes: As is expected with all Lautrec’s artwork there is clearly a fusion of aesthetic investigation and poignant social commentary.

The book for which this lithograph served as pictorial wrappers contained 115 poems by Julien Sermet, with a preface by Gustaf Geffroy. It was published by Joubert in Paris, April 26, in 1897.
Artist Biography: Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa (France, 1864-1901). Painter, Printmaker, Draughtsman, Caricaturist, and Illustrator. Best known for Post-Impressionist explorations of Paris Social Life.
