Georgian sterling silver ‘Sherry’ bottle ticket / wine label, London, 1826.

An English Georgian sterling silver bottle ticket / wine label, 1 ¾ inches wide x 1 inch high, made in London by “CR” in 1826. The oval ticket has a gadrooned edge and is engraved within its center “SHERRY” and retains its original silver over copper plated chain (some rubbing), 2 ¾ inches long when center is pulled to a point. The back is impressed with the following touchmarks:

  1. CR” in a rectangular cartouche with canted corners denotes ‘Charles Rawlins’
  2. George IV (1820-1830) monarchs head (facing right / Sinister) duty mark
  3. Lion Passant in a rectangular cartouche with canted corners denotes sterling silver
  4. “1” in oval with top corners canted is the year code for 1826
  5. Leopards head in a shield is the town mark for London

It weights ~8.8 grams while holding the chain aloft – (31.104 = troy ounce).
