Very nice late Victorian, English, sterling silver coffee set (6 spoons and matching sugar tongs), in original fitted black leatherette hinged presentation case. The silverware was made by London silversmith George Maudsley Jackson, circa 1889/ 1890. Each spoon has a narrow shell formed bowl, a partially twisted stem and a elongated scroll terminal.
The rectangular, black leatherette covered, hinged presentation case, 8 ⅛ inches long x 5 ¼ inches high x 1 ⅛, has a royal blue velvet fitted interior and the top interior is covered in blue satin embossed in gold with the retailers name, etc. as follows:
A crown is flanked by the words: “PRIZE MEDALS / MANUFACTURING / GOLD SMITHS & SILVER SMITHS / COMPANY / 112 REGENT ST. LONDON.”
The top of of the case is embossed with gilt letters as follows: “NORTH COTSWOLD HOUNDS FROM / ALCERNON RUSHOUT / 1890.”
CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition with no damage of any kind to the silver and the case has minor scuff marks, but super condition in general. Hinges and clasp are tight and work well.
