Notes: A fine pair of Viennese 0.813 silver sugar tongs with distinctive Austrian spring mechanism, made in 1854 and engraved with a crown over the conjoined initials “AT” for Princess Anna Maria of Lichtenstein and Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg (Vienna, 1820 – Vienna, 1908) of the Order of the Star Cross. Princess Anna married Prince Ferdinand Joachim of Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg (1820-1845) in Vienna, July 17 1841. This was likely commissioned as part of a personal tea or coffee service.
Markings: impressed with Austrian 13 Loth Silver Mark and dated 1854; Makers mark ‘Mβ’
Condition: Antique, Excellent
For Accuracy: an Antique it may show expected light signs of age. It is monogrammed with the Royal crown above the initials “AT” for Princess Anna Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg (and Lichtenstein). The silver retains a fine original patina and the gilt is excellent. See Photographs.

Original owner “AT” was Princess Anna Maria of Liechtenstein (1820-1908), daughter of Prince Karl of Liechtenstein (1790-1865) & Franziska Marie Leopoldina Bernardina von Wrbna und Freudenthal (1799-1863), married at Vienna on July 17, 1841 to Ferdinand Joachim, Prince of Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg (1803-1859), son of Johann Nepomuk Josef Norbert Prince of Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg (1780-1834) and his wife Elisabeth Marie Philippine of Fürstenberg-Weitra (1784-1865). Had issue Karl Johann Nepomuk Ferdinand, Prince of Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg) (b. Vienna, 1845- d. Horšovský Týn, Czech, 1921), who married in Vienna, 29 April 1869, Giuseppina Maria Markgräifn Pallavicini (1849-1923), who had issue Graf Karl von Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg (1872-1951), who married in Vienna, 2 May 1905, Marie Wilhelmine Franziska Princess of Auersperg (1880-1960). Directly down two more generations who wish to remain private.
Provenance: Direct from descendants who currently reside in Ontario, Canada. The lot being sold as part of a downsizing because, quoting the owner, “they don’t make sugar like that anymore,” thus the family has no use for them. This may be so but they would make a fine addition to any collection.
