HENRY BIRKS & SONS Ltd., sterling silver cigarette case of rectangular form, 3 ¼ inches high x 3 ⅞ inches wide. The front of the case is expertly hand engraved with a design that includes two central blossoms with another blossom in each corner, then the whole is surrounded by large fronds of c-scroll foliage. The back of the case is undecorated and the gilt interior is fitted with fine coiled springs to hold the cigarettes firmly in place. It comes with its original blue card BIRKS box, 4 ¼ inches square x ⅞ inches thick.
Impressed on the inside of the front, top edge: “BIRKS STERLING”
Total weight = 110.6 grams ÷ 31.104 = 3.558 troy ounces.
CONDITION: The case is in excellent vintage condition with no damage, has tight hinges and clasp. It has never been engraved or repaired. The fine springs inside are slightly ‘sprung’ near their ends (see photograph) and there is a slight scuff on the front of blue box (see photograph).
