Notes: Vintage hanging pipe rack with match holder and strike made from a chalkware head of a French monk, with integral match strike, curly maple, and a third wood. Likely made by an American or Canadian folk craftsman in the late 19th to the first half of the 20th Century. The match holder is placed centrally on a framed curly maple panel above a narrow rack carved for an allowance of five pipes. The end pipe holes are carved in diamonds and the central three in graduated circles echoing the geometric properties of the shaped frame.
Dimensions: 12” high x 11 ½” wide x 4” deep
Weight: 2 lbs. 8 oz.
Notes: Made with a high attention to detail this is fine well-constructed piece of tobacciana.
Condition: Very Good Vintage Condition – no damage, no repair.
For accuracy: there are a couple scuffs to the black robe of the chalkware, these are minimal as most examples have barely any of the original paint left, if not none at all. The wood shows a nice patina and the hardware exhibits some age indicating it was fashioned many years ago.
